About the Programmer
Founded in 2014, the Women's Center for Creative Work (WCCW) is a Los Angeles–based intersectional feminist art space that is building community and elevating the work of women and nonbinary artists, makers, and creative practitioners. In WCCW's Elysian Valley location, they house a coworking space, artist-in-residence program and exhibition space, print lab, and feminist library, as well as offer many programs, events, and workshops. WCCW extends direct-to-artist grants and provides support and incubation for like-minded projects. Through Co-Conspirator Press, WCCW provides a platform for creating, designing, distributing, and producing feminist content through the radical practice of self-publishing. They work toward a feminism that prioritizes women of color; queer, trans, and nonbinary folx; and other marginalized communities. WCCW is building community, reframing creative conversations, and modeling the world they wish to see through their work.
About the Program
A screening of "Going Bananas" by Gloria Galvez—an animated film on the problematic history and contemporary condition of bananas sold to Western countries—accompanied by a meal of snack-sized banana foods and a discussion of the film. Viewers will be invited to contribute to Galvez's online archiving art and activism project.
