About the Artist

Carolyn Pennypacker Riggs is a Los Angeles–based artist who creates experimental, site-specific public ritual with sound, sculpture, video, costume, and collective performance. Her work confronts ancient archetypes, canonized heroic narratives, and mythological tropes to explore structures of power and actions we can take—both as individuals and collectively—to combat psychic and systemic oppression. The core theme of her practice is the conviction that the creation of new mythologies—“speculative mythology” in reference to speculative fiction—can lead to the deconstruction of real-life hierarchies. Riggs is the creator and composer of the site-specific performance ensemble, Song of Eurydice; teaches Songbuilding workshops to adults and tweens; makes videos and music as one-half of the duo, Bouquet; and leads Community Chorus, a resistance-themed, commitment-free, on-call chorus that performs at marches and rallies.

Annie Gimas is a Los Angeles–based multidisciplinary artist who incorporates dance, performance art, photography, music, and fine art to her body of work. Her introduction to dance began with music videos, hip hop, and music theater, which led to formal dance training and choreography at California State University, Long Beach. Her choreography is inspired by experimental, electronic music, and jazz, and she found herself creating music and designing costumes for her dances, as well as playing electric bass in collaboration with other artists. The two passions combined to photography, through which she documented musicians, dancers, and other artists. Music and movement, silence and stillness, and simply observing the fragility, absurdity, humor, strength, and beauty of life continue to inspire her work.

About the Art

Organized and led by Carolyn Pennypacker Riggs and Annie Gimas, ALL AGAIN is a choral and movement performance exploring themes of food justice, ecology, and environmental manipulation, with an emphasis on access, food waste, and composting. With this performance, the artists aim to support dialogue and action around these crucial topics through collective movement, music, sculpture, and education. Inspired by speculative fiction and mythology, ALL AGAIN encourages dialogue and action about crucial topics such as food justice, ecology, and environmental manipulation, with an emphasis on access, food waste, and compost through collective movement, music, and education. After the workshops and performances, the artists will explore the possibility of a permanent LA Compost community hub, locally established, to make available a public space for food drop-off, further education, and hands-on learning.
